It's been raining here for about a week strait now and while it does put a damper on a lot of things I tend to excel in these conditions. I love bad weather, even though at the time when your out in it it does blow but those are the types of stories your gonna tell when you're sitting around having beers with friends. For a long time I used to dread bad weather just like everyone else but I could never seem to get away from it so I decided to embrace it. The following images are from a canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the fall of 2007.
Making the long portage into Wind Lake we had to cross this tree on the trail. I got there about 30 seconds too late and missed the woman without a pack on doing a turtle impersonation. She had fallen while climbing over the log and the pack threw her off balance and she landed on her back and couldn't right herself without help. The only thing that was hurt was her pride.
I was really surprised when I saw this girl in the cold and rain portaging in Crocs.
Taking a nap after a long morning of paddling and portaging.
By late afternoon the wind and rain had picked up again making it tough to shoot sharp images in the rapidly fading light.
We were all woken in the middle of the night by what sounded like a gunshot which we quickly realized a tree had snapped in the wind. It wasn't till the next morning that we realized how close this chunk of birch tree had come to hitting one of the tents.
